Along with the coming of hot summer, sunglasses enjoy an increasing consumer market. Entering the sunglass store, we will find it hard to make a decision on which one to buy. Faced with so many sunglasses with different colors, we should take not only our favorite colors but also the functions of these sunglasses into consideration when we make a choice on one of them. Moreover, it is proved that different colors of the lenses have different functions with regard to the effectiveness about light-blocking. I will discuss them in the following.

Grey lens: It transmits all colors in the sunshine evenly. Also they can block out the ultraviolet rays and the infrared rays, changing not the colors of the environment outside, but the light intensity. Wearing this kind of lenses, we will have a feeling of coolness and comfort just like being in a cloudy day.

Green lens: It has a better performance of anti-ultraviolet rays and anti-infrared rays. Because eyes are the most sensitive to green color, we can have the clearest vision and hold a good sense of color when wearing the green lens sunglasses.

Dark brown lens: It is good at blocking ultraviolet rays, but it has a worse performance of anti-infrared rays than the green lens.

Yellow lens: Yellow sunglasses enjoy a similar performance of anti-UV and anti-IR with the dark brown lens. In addition, because of a good performance in telling red from green, it is often used by drivers in recognizing traffic signals.

Black lens: It is the most popular lens of sunglasses. Even though it is most effective in blocking strong light out, black lens can make the view dark.

Brown lens: The level of distorting colors is higher than that of gray and green lenses. Therefore it enjoys a lower consumers’ satisfaction. While it provides another choice of color, reduces slightly the halo of blue light, and improves visual contrast and depth perception. And the effects are most evident in the situations where pollution is serious or fog is intensified.

Rose lens: It can absorb some UV and some visible lights with short wavelength. In fact, this lens has little difference from the lens without colors. That is, rose lens enjoys no better protection than common lens

Before we make a choice, we should consider what color is best suitable for us and the functions of the colors of lens
